About the Site
At BookNom.net, we hope to provide an online home for booksellers (a platform to sell books even if the bookstores we used to know cease to be), and a place for lovers of books to share with the world all the good books (so many books) worthy of consideration. Since your time and ours is limited, we’ll keep the reviews short and to the point, and so long as hosting can be paid out of pocket by our founder [Matt Blind] the site will also be free of outside advertising. The content is the ad; we’re selling books.
At the end of each review, site contributors are encouraged to link to sites where the book is available, and to do so using established affiliate programs. If you click the link, our reviewers get paid. We work for tips; and for the love of books, and the joy of sharing that love — but the tips allow us to buy more books.
BookNom is an experiment, first proposed in 2010 and founded on 3 basic principles:
- First, that people will still be reading books, even if technology changes the way books look, or the very ways books are made, stored, distributed and read — we have read books for millennia and will continue to do so.
- Second, that no one can read everything. We have to make choices.
- & Third, that there is value in being well-read, and able to say why a book is good, and in being able to make a recommendation to others—to guide them in their choices. What we need are booksellers.
If you’re interested in joining us as a contributor, please read both the submission guidelines and site style guide.
